In the Fresh off the Boat episode ‘The Flush’, Eddie (Hudson Yang) invites his friends over for a sleepover and they try beer for the first time. Eddie has an adverse reaction to the alcohol — commonly known as the Asian Flush — which prompts his father Louis (Randall Park) to reminiscence about his college drinking days. In a 1980s flashback, we see Louis drinking with his friend Chau who’s rocking a serious, sky-high pompadour and six-pack abs.
Last time we saw Chau on Fresh off the Boat was in the 2015 episode “The Fall Ball”. In a flashback, Louis works at a factory with Chau and they disagree about the current John Hughes film Pretty in Pink starring Molly Ringwald. Chau tells Louis it should be called “Sad Redhead Goes to the Dance.” Chau is portrayed by NBA basketball player Jeremy Lin who’s currently playing point guard with the Brooklyn Nets. The Harvard graduate sparked “Linsanity” when he played for the New York Knicks 2011-2012. Fresh off the Boat airs Tuesdays at 9pm on ABC.
