In the New Girl episode ‘Misery’, while Aly gets ready to meet Winston’s (Lamorne Morris) mother Charmaine (guest star Anna Maria Horsford), Jess (Zooey Deschanel) runs away from her feelings for Nick (Jake Johnson) and visits her father, Bob Day. It’s been two years since New Girl fans have seen Bob (the gang traveled to Portland for his wedding in 2015). In this episode, avid bowler Bob plays up an injury so Jess will rub his feet while he lies in bed, among other things.
Bob Day is portrayed by Rob Reiner. As an actor Reiner is known for his roles in The Wolf of Wall Street (Max Belfort), This Is Spinal Tap (Marty DiBergi), and All in the Family (“Meathead”), among many others. As a director, he’s known for his films A Few Good Men, The American President, When Harry Met Sally…, Stand By Me, The Princess Bride, and Misery (he also played the helicopter pilot). New Girl airs Tuesdays at 8pm on FOX.
