Gary — is it the name Howard Stern has said most, after Robin, of course? For loyal Howard Stern Show listeners, you can hear Stern’s voice saying “Gary” when you read the name. Stern says it with love. Producer Gary Dell’Abate‘s birthday was cause for a stroll down memory lane for the pair — Dell’Abate has been producing Stern’s show since 1984! Known as Baba Booey Gary has become a major on-air presence too — indeed Baba Booey shoutouts reached a fever pitch last year as Stern memes were everywhere from the Democratic National Convention the the Emmys (“Hit ’em with the Hein,” said host Jimmy Kimmel.)

The trip down memory lane included Stern playing an unearthed audition tape Dell’Abate did for MTV back in the day. Baba Booey butchers it, which causes Howard all sorts of delight. But it’s great evidence that life works out if you press forward. The history of radio can’t be written without Howard Stern (and Dell’Abate) in a prominent position, and that history could have been much different if Dell’Abate hadn’t demonstrated a hilarious ineptitude in his MTV try. Have a listen!
