The premiere episode of The Good Fight, The Good Wife spinoff, opens with lawyer Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski) on top of the world. She announces she’s retiring and starts looking at real estate in the south of France. But when she discovers her retirement money has disappeared in a Ponzi scheme orchestrated by her friends, Diane’s life spins out of control. And to make matters worse for Democrat Diane, she learns that Donald Trump has been elected President of the United States. The creators of The Good Fight have promised a season of politically charged episodes — which has the actors charged up too.

Christine Baranski said about election night: “We were all in free fall. And I think the interesting thing is you have a lead character [Diane Lockhart] who is in more of a practical free fall in a similar way to what the country is feeling right now, like how do you take the next step up when there’s no foundation? Where are we? Where are we morally?” The Good Fight premieres on February 19 at 8pm on CBS.
