John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono marked a sad day in history by calling attention to the epidemic of gun violence in America. Writing 36 years after Lennon was shot outside his apartment building in New York City, Ono lamented that “every day, 91 Americans are killed with guns.”
Ono, a visual artist, lent her message horrifying graphic import by including a photo of Lennon’s blood-smattered glasses, set on the windowsill with the Central Park skyline in the background. Superimposed in the sky above the blood and buildings Ono writes: “Over 1,200,000 people have been killed by guns in the USA since John Lennon was shot and killed on December 8th, 1980.”
