In the Code Black episode ‘Ave Maria’, when a 13-year-old girl named Emily is sent to Angels Memorial after a seizure caused by spina bifida, the doctors are absolutely shocked to find out that she’s the daughter of Dr. Will Campbell (Boris Kodjoe). The doctors also have their hands full with patient Kathy Byrne, a deaf woman whose car rolled into the Los Angeles River.
The deaf patient, Kathy Byrne, is portrayed by Marlee Matlin. She is known for her roles on Switched at Birth (Melody), The L Word (Jodi Lerner), My Name Is Earl (Ruby), The West Wing (Joey Lucas), Picket Fences (Mayor Laurie Bey), and Reasonable Doubts (ADA Tess Kaufman) with Mark Harmon, among others. Matlin is also well recognized for her Oscar-winning role as Sarah Norman in the 1986 film Children of a Lesser God with William Hurt. Code Black airs Wednesdays at 10pm on CBS.
