In The Real Housewives of Atlanta episode ‘Shade Grenade’, while Phaedra Parks receives a disturbing visit in her office (a man walked in with a grenade), Sheree Whitfield gets a call from her son Kairo from jail. The young man was arrested for DUI. After his release, Sheree sits down with Kairo. “I don’t know what you want me to say,” says the young man with a shy smile. “Was it funny? Because I didn’t think it was funny when I got the phone call,” says Sheree. When she asks Kairo why he was smoking pot and driving Kairo says he smoked earlier. “I wasn’t under the influence at all, really.” Kairo told his mother he was pulled over for an expired tag, and “not for driving reckless or anything.”
Sheree reminds Kairo of their experience at the Million Mom March where they met women who had lost their sons. “As a black young man, you’re not on the same playing field as a lot of people,” says Sheree. The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays at 8pm on Bravo.
