The Growing Up Hip Hop episode ‘Busta Crime’ addresses a number of serious issues including drunk driving and domestic violence. While Boogie Dash (son of Damon Dash) deals with his DUI charges, Briana Kamara (formerly Isaacs) deals with the emotional and physical pain after she was attacked by a man she had been dating. Briana is the daughter of label exec Martin “Kendu” Isaacs, who is currently going through a divorce with wife of 13 years Mary J. Blige. Kendu and Briana’s mother never married.
Briana says she had “a pretty rough upbringing” and her parents “didn’t know how to deal with the teenage version of me.” She says she “ended up getting put out at about 12.” Briana moved to Miami when she was about 15 and lived with her grandmother. In Miami, she was doing a lot of drugs and “was kicked out of school for the third time.” She hit rock bottom. Now she says, “People pay me to hang out at my house – it works for me and I’ve found a way.” She has become an advocate for domestic violence victims. Growing Up Hip Hop airs Thursdays at 9pm on WEtv.
