The digital web series The Earliest Show is a spoof on the traditional morning talk show (think Live! with Kelly Ripa) where two people ramble on about celebrities, cats and culture. It’s hilarious. On every episode of The Earliest Show, a real-life celebrity comes on to talk about their latest project. The third episode features actor Jake Johnson of New Girl as the show’s guest. Jake arrives on set after The Earliest Show host Ben Schwartz has his marriage proposal rejected by his girlfriend. Schwartz is fit to be tied. The “interview” goes way off track and Jake ends up tormenting Ben with his own happy marriage before the men wrestle on the set. There’s an analogy about relationships and chocolate you won’t forget.
Host Lauren Lapkus tries to reel it in when she asks Jake, “What’s New Girl?” When she doesn’t get an answer, Lauren continues to ask a litany of airheaded follow-up questions: “And what’s Old Girl?”, “If Zoo-ey is the New Girl, who’s the Old Girl? And how old is she and has she passed?” The Earliest Show is co-produced by Cap’N Crunch and Funny or Die.
