Gabriel Violett is the 28-year-old from Fenton, Missouri who’s competing on The Voice, Season 11. The former Broadway star was a sophomore at Belmont University in Nashville when he got the role of Otto in Spring Awakening (2008). But the show closed nine months later. Violett has auditioned for The Voice before but in 2016, he says, “I cracked the code.” For his 2016 Blind Audition, his performance of Shawn Mendes’ “Treat You Better” provoked two coaches — Alicia Keys and Blake Shelton — to turn their chairs.
Violett’s local newspaper St. Louis Today says Violett recognized that his decision to be on Team Alicia “could be a bit of a risk” since it’s her first season on the show, “while Shelton is one of the more tried and true coaches.” Violett will compete in the first round of The Battles on The Voice which airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 8pm on NBC.
