Billionaire Facebook co-founder and former Mark Zuckerberg roommate Dustin Moskovitz is trending in the news for making a huge $20 million donation to the Democrats, including Hillary Clinton. Moskowitz and his wife, Cari Tuna, haven’t been active in politics until now — but they decided to do something. The powerful couple overcame their reluctance to use large sums of money to influence a campaign, explaining:
“We hope these efforts make it a little more likely that Secretary Clinton is able to pursue the agenda she’s outlined, and serve as a signal to the Republican Party that by running this kind of campaign — one built on fear and hostility — and supporting this kind of candidate, they compel people to act in response.”
If you’re wracking your brain to figure out which Facebook founder Moskovitz is, you might think of dinosaurs. Since Facebook was a very private affair at first — and its founding much contested (see Winklevoss twins) most people only know the story through the Aaron Sorkin screenplay for The Social Network. In that film the young Moskovitz is played by actor Joe Mazzello, who memorably played young Tim Murphy from the Jurassic Park movies. Moskovitz was born in 1984, Mazzello in 1983.
