The TV movie Sister Cities on Lifetime is based on the stage play of the same title by Colette Freedman. It’s about four estranged sisters (named after cities – Baltimore, Carolina, Dallas and Austin) who reunite at their family house in New England to mourn the death of their mother, Mary, who apparently committed suicide by drowning herself in the tub. It’s not a pleasant situation and the rifts between the sisters just get wider the longer they spend time together.

Mary Baxter is portrayed by Jacki Weaver. Americans will recognize the Australian-born actress from her roles in the films Silver Linings Playbook (Dolores), Animal Kingdom (Janine ‘Smurf’ Cody), Stoker (Gwendolyn Stoker), and The Voices (Dr. Warren), among others. Weaver will appear next on the big screen in the 2018 comedy Life of the Party with Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph and Modern Family’s Julie Bowen. Sister Cities premieres on Lifetime on Saturday, September 17 at 8pm.
