Oprah Winfrey and Selma director Ava DuVernay are behind the new TV series Queen Sugar. It follows three estranged siblings who are reunited when their father Ernest Bordelon (Glynn Turman) dies. They inherit his 800-acre sugarcane farm in Louisiana and struggle to fulfill their father’s dying wish — to keep the farm. Charlotte aka Charley Bordelon West flies in from Los Angeles (with her teenage son) after discovering that her professional basketball player husband has been cheating on her. (She exploded at a game, with the cameras rolling.)
[Queen Sugar is based on the bestselling novel by Natalie Baszile]
Charley Bordelon West is portrayed by Dawn-Lyen Gardner. She’s appeared on several TV shows including ER, Crossing Jordan, Summerland, Bones, Heroes, Castle, and The Mysteries of Laura, among others. Queen Sugar airs Wednesdays at 10pm on OWN.
