Tom Hanks is out promoting Sully, the story of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger — who courageously, miraculously lands a passenger jet on the Hudson River. Hanks has spent a career banking the dignity it takes to play the role — rising from Bosom Buddies and Big to romantic comedy superstar in movies like You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle. (He moved beyond these too, to win back-to-back Oscars for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, of course.)

But for many fans Hanks will remain forever the middle-aged man of Meg Ryan’s dreams. Ryan memorably — indelibly — played opposite Hanks in Sleepless and You’ve Got Mail — and Joe Versus The Volcano, too. Hanks and Ryan were so good together she didn’t even need to fake it, like she did with Billy Crystal. The two reunited on the set of Good Morning America as Ryan is also promoting her latest film Ithaca. Guess what? Hanks makes a cameo.
