Documentary Now! — the hilarious hit show from the SNL-bred trio of Fred Armisen, Bill Hader and Seth Meyers — is back for Season 2 on IFC. And the comic trio became a fab four to promote the first episode when they visited the media megaphone otherwise known as the Howard Stern Show. There was just too much comic talent in the room, as the foursome — all of whom have taken turns owning the New York comedy scene over the years — tried to make room for each other’s stars to shine. They made the most room for Armisen’s Prince tales, which rival Charlie Murphy’s Prince-capades a la David Chappelle. It’s Prince, Armisen, and some really, really good Macaroni and Cheese — just listen.
Stern tantalized listeners while the four were talking about SNL “after parties” which homebody Stern hates the whole idea of. Stern said “I would love to do Saturday Night Live” but the after party was a deal breaker. You could almost hear Meyers, Hader and Armisen churning out ideas for Stern SNL skits as he spoke. They also talked — how could they not? — about Fred Armisen’s devastating David Paterson impression on SNL back in the day. Paterson was the blind governor of New York after Eliot Spitzer got caught with hookers. Documentary Now! airs on IFC at 10pm Wednesdays. It’ll surprise you.
