Lifetime is airing the TV movie Girl in the Box which is based on the true story of Colleen Stan. Stan was 20 years old when hitchhiking from Oregon to California in May 1977. She accepted a ride from a young married couple named Cameron and Janice Hooker. At knife point, Stan was abducted and held a sex slave for seven years in their home in Red Bluff, California. Stan was kept in a coffin-like box under the couple’s bed. Eventually, Janice Hooker reported her husband to the police.
[The District Attorney who prosecuted Cameron Hooker wrote the book ‘Perfect Victim: The True Story of the Girl in the Box‘]
In 1985, at Cameron Hooker’s trial, Janice Hooker testified in exchange for full immunity. Cameron Hooker was sentenced to serve 104 years at the Folsom State Prison in California. Cameron Hooker’s request for parole in April 2015 was denied. He will be eligible again in 2030. Girl in the Box will premiere on Lifetime on Saturday, September 10 at 8pm.
