The protagonist of the musical Waitress is Jenna, a waitress who dreams of opening her own pie shop someday. But she has a number of obstacles to overcome – feeling stuck in a small town, her loveless marriage, and an unexpected pregnancy. A baking contest and a handsome new doctor in town help Jenna find the courage she needs to follow her dream.
Jenna is portrayed by Jessie Mueller. She’s known for her Broadway performance as Carole King in Beautiful the Musical. For that role Mueller won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical and a Grammy for Best Musical Theatre Album. Fun fact: Mueller is dating actor Andrew Truschinski (The Heidi Chronicles, War Horse). Mueller is nominated again for Best Actress in a Musical for Waitress. The 70th Annual Tony Awards will be televised on June 12 at 8pm on CBS.
