In the two-part Season 3 premiere of The Night Shift, the overnight crew gets involved in a strange car accident/rescue while Dr. Drew Alister (Brendan Fehr) serves overseas in Afghanistan. There he teams up with a colleague, Dr. Syd Jennings, to treat an injured, eight-months pregnant Afghani woman.
Dr. Syd Jennings is portrayed by Jennifer Beals. She’s known for her roles in Proof (Dr. Carolyn Tyler), Lauren (Major Stone), The Mob Doctor (Celeste LaPree), The Chicago Code (Teresa Colvin), Lie to Me (Zoe Landau), and The L Word (Bette Porter), among others. Beals is also recognized for her roles in the films Roger Dodger (Sophie), Whit Stillman’s The Last Days of Disco with Chloe Sevigny and Kate Beckinsale (Nina), Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle (Gertrude Benchley), and last but not least Flashdance (Alex Owens). The Night Shift airs Wednesdays at 10pm on NBC.
