Barack Obama gave his last White House Correspondents Dinner performance on Saturday. It showed his comic timing, strong writing staff and even good math. (He told Bernie Sanders he “looked like a million bucks” — or “in terms you can understand, you look like 37,000 donations of $27 each.” The POTUS predictably picked on GOP front-runner Donald Trump, but it’s hard to land punches or punchlines on Trump. It’s like criticizing Michael Jordan before a game; it just seems to give the guy more fuel.
But Obama did get off a not-so-subtle prediction about who’ll be giving the White House speech next year. And Trump wasn’t part of his equation. Knowing no one can predict the future Obama both acknowledged that fact and indicated he had some clues. “Next year at this time, someone else will be standing here in this very spot,” Obama said. “And it’s anyone’s guess who she will be.” Unless he meant Trump would pick Sarah Palin as a running mate, win and then resign.
