Elisabeth Moss has been keeping herself quite busy since Mad Men downed its last martini and smoked all its cigarettes. She stars in the New Zealand-set thriller Top of the Lake, as well as having appeared in several movies, including the cult drama High Rise with Tom Hiddleston. Later this year she will appear as Masha in a new version of Chekhov’s The Seagull. And she will soon star in Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, based on Margaret Atwood‘s 1985 smash-hit novel.
Atwood’s dystopian tale of religious fundamentalism and sexual slavery is probably her most famous work, and has had a screen version once already, with Natasha Richardson and Robert Duvall. It has also inspired an opera, a ballet, and a concept album. There has been no word yet on who else has been cast in the new streaming series.
