The Joe Jonas-led band DNCE will perform a medley of its first hit “Cake by the Ocean” and its next hit “Toothbrush” on The Voice on May 3 at 8pm on NBC. “Toothbrush” will be released on May 17. Both songs are on the band’s debut EP SWAAY produced by Republic Records. DNCE has garnered a reputation for quirky songs which are undeniably influenced by their Swedish collaborators, co-writers and producers, Mattman & Robin and Ilya Salmanzadeh.
DNCE bass guitarist Cole Whittle says they were in the studio with “these Swedish producers” who were “trying to talk about the cocktail Sex on the Beach but they kept calling it Cake by the Ocean. And that image birthed this party anthem.” Another fun fact: the name DNCE was born from an error too. Joe Jonas says, “We were drunk texting one night, talking about what the band name should be and someone mis-spelt [sic] the word dance.” DNCE will perform on The Voice on May 3 at 8pm on NBC.
