In the Season 1 finale episode of Dr. Ken, Ken (Ken Jeong) is inspired to try standup comedy after reconnecting with his college friend Doug, a professional standup comedian. While it’s been a lifelong dream of Ken’s to become a comedian, he discovers it’s not as easy as he thought, and his colleagues at work aren’t very encouraging.
Doug is portrayed by real-life standup comedian Jeff Ross. The Boston University grad is the New York Friars’ Club Roastmaster General. He’s been the head roaster the last twelve Comedy Central Roasts including roasts of Pamela Anderson (2005), Donald Trump and Charlie Sheen (2011), and Justin Bieber (2015), to name a few. He’s the author of I Only Roast the Ones I Love: Busting Balls Without Burning Bridges. Ross can also act (CSI, Six Feet Under, Weeds) and he can dance (Dancing with the Stars, Season 7). Dr. Ken airs Fridays at 8:30pm on ABC.
