In the Dateline NBC episode “The Quiet One,” reporter Josh Mankiewicz and his camera crew travel to Boone, Iowa to investigate the death of 32-year-old Emily Fazzino. In 2012, her husband Alexander Fazzino found her unconscious in the master bathroom. He pulled her out of the tub and called 911. Unfortunately, their children walked in and saw their mother on the bathroom floor. “It was the worst seconds of my life,” Fazzino tells Mankiewicz. He also says he assumed Emily’s death was an overdose. He says he had been dealing with his wife’s addiction to drugs for over a year.
Fazzino was charged with first degree murder. During his trial, a Skype conversation between Emily and Fazzino was shown in court. In the video, Emily says she had three cocktails and that she took pills that a psychiatrist had given her. Alex said, “I don’t want you taking them when you’re taking care of the kids, because you’re not talking correctly and it’s troubling.” Alex Fazzino was found not guilty in March 2016.
