ABC 20/20 has produced an investigate report on 29-year-old Daniel Holtzclaw, the former All-American football player (Eastern Michigan University) turned Oklahoma City police officer. In August 2014, Holtzclaw faced “36 charges, including sexual battery, assault, coercive oral sodomy, and stalking.” In January 2016, Holtzclaw was convicted on 18 of the charges. He was sentenced to 263 years in prison. His request for a new trial was denied. When 20/20 posted a sneak peek at the report on its Facebook page, dozens of women commented — including a number who are defending Holtzclaw’s innocence.
Maleia Dungan wrote: “Daniel was thrown under the bus! Very corrupt Chief in OKC and I believe the Chief will get his in the end.” Leslie Magarian chimed in, “This will expose the truth! A corrupt justice system and the Chief of Police that has abused so many black women. He threw Daniel under the bus.” Magarian, like 200 others so far, have signed a petition to “Free Daniel Holtzclaw.” 20/20 airs Fridays at 10pm on ABC.
