The 2010 documentary My 40 Year Old Child tells the story of 40-year-old Australian, Nicky Freeman, who has the body of a 10-year-old. Nicky has a mysterious medical condition (some refer to it as Syndrome X) that has caused him to stop growing mentally and physically. Nicky’s mother Kayleen Freeman says he was born with hydrocephalous (fluid on the brain) and she wonders if her son’s disabilities were caused by an antihistamine she took for allergies while she was pregnant. “Five women in Esperance (where Nicky was born) who took it had spontaneous abortions and another had a child with a serious disability,” Kayleen told The Western Australian.
American Gabby Williams, who also suffers from the mysterious condition, is also featured in the documentary. She is 6 years old and is the size of a newborn baby. My 40 Year Old Child will air on TLC on Monday, April 4 at 9pm.
