After much teasing, Game of Thrones has finally released a full trailer (below) for Season 6 of the fantasy series, promising much fire, blood, sex, and death. From the opening shot of dead probably not dead come on, we all know he’s alive Jon Snow lying in the snow at the Wall to a close-cropped Cersie Lannister to a blind Arya to her now-lanky brother Bran, this promises to a season of both change and revenge. “I choose violence,” says Cersie. Okay, there’s nothing new there. People look broody and miserable. There are fierce glances exchanged, and much blood, and of course it’s a given that there will be enough nudity to keep HBO’s CEO of Boobs happy. “You’re in the Great Game now,” says Tyrion. “And the Great Game is terrifying.”
Emilia Clarke promises it will feature “the biggest moments on television that have ever existed,” which frankly would sound like hyperbole if Game of Thrones wasn’t already a show that revels in exaggeration, both in its story and its marketing. Speaking of games, Chris Isaak‘s ‘Wicked Game’ – a song about love and betrayal – as performed by James Vincent McMorrow, becomes a song about love, betrayal and, er, dragons. By way of comparison, here is the original version.
