Actress Rooney Mara moved to Los Angeles in 2007 to pursue her acting career. It proved to be a smart move. Since then, she’s appeared in the films The Social Network (Erica Albright), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Lisbeth), Her (Catherine), and Carol (Therese Belivet, for which she is nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar). In 2010, when The Social Network was released, Mara started dating director Charlie McDowell.
McDowell is best known for directing and writing the 2006 short film Bye Bye Benjamin, and the 2014 feature film The One I Love, starring Mark Duplass and Elisabeth Moss. McDowell’s mother, Mary Steenburgen, and his stepfather, Ted Danson, had supporting roles. McDowell’s father is actor Malcolm McDowell. Charlie McDowell will direct his girlfriend Rooney Mara in The Discovery, a sci-fi romance with Nicholas Hoult.
