Elaine Weinstein is the wife of Warren Weinstein. Weinstein was an American contractor in Pakistan working for J.E. Austin Associates, a firm that oversees new business projects in developing economies. In 2011, Warren Weinstein was kidnapped by al-Qaeda members and held hostage for seven months before he had the chance to speak with his wife by phone. She sent the kidnappers $243,000 but Warren was not released. He was handed over to another terrorist group in Pakistan.
On January 14, 2015, Weinstein was accidentally killed by a US drone strike along with al -Qaeda leader, Ahmed Farouq. Elaine Weinstein, who remains angry at US government efforts to secure her husband’s release, is releasing never before seen or heard chat messages and phone calls she had with the terrorists while negotiating for the release of her husband. She talks with 60 Minutes which airs Sundays at 7pm on CBS.
