When basketball player Scot Pollard was in the NBA (Sacramento Kings, Indiana Pacers) he was known for his funky hairstyles. Now he’s bald and competing on Survivor: Kaoh Rong. The 18 castaways are divided into three tribes based on the traits that help them the most – Brains, Brawn, and Beauty. The 6’11” professional athlete most certainly fits into the Brawn tribe but that doesn’t mean he’s invincible, and he knows it.
Cardiomyopathy – when the heart has a difficult time delivering blood throughout the body – runs in the Pollard family. “I’m on a watch list,” Pollard told the Indianapolis Star (he lives in Carmel, IN with his wife and kids). “It’s a big man thing.” NBA great Wilt Chamberlain (7’1”) died of cardiomyopathy at the age of 63. And Pollard’s dad (6’10”) died of it at the age of 54 (when Pollard was 16). Pollard, now 41, says the best thing to do is to keep his weight down. His cardiologist told him “the less your heart has to pump, the better.” Survivor: Kaôh Rong — Brains vs. Brawn vs. Beauty airs Tuesdays at 8pm on CBS.
