On the New Girl episode “What About Fred,” Jess (Zooey Deschanel) jumps back into dating and lands on a date with a dud spud named Fred (Taran Killam). It would be easy for Jess to walk away from Fred but she really hits it off with Fred’s parents, Nancy and Flip. Flip is portrayed by Henry Winkler, The Fonz turned famous children’s book author. Nancy is portrayed by Julie Hagerty.

Hagerty is best known for her roles as stewardess Elaine from the 1980 film Airplane!, Albert Brooks’ wife Linda in Lost in America, and Richard Dreyfuss’ wife Fay Marvin in What About Bob? Since then Hagerty has appeared on several TV shows including Murphy Brown, ER, and Malcolm in the Middle (Polly), among others. New Girl airs Tuesdays at 8pm on FOX.
