Mary Desmond is the 17-year-old from Rancho Santa Margarita, California who’s auditioning on the fifteenth and final season of American Idol. For her Idol audition she chose the R&B standard “Fever.” (She sings it more like Michael Buble than Peggy Lee.) According to the OC Register, Desmond performed the song this summer at the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach Hotel where she opened for jazz artist Eric Marienthal

Mary Desmond has the chops and is no stranger to the stage. She’s been acting since she was 5. She appeared in a commercial for Disney Fantasy Princess and got her first big role as Annie when she was 7. She went on to travel with the National Broadway Tour of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and most recently starred as Elle in her high school’s production of Legally Blonde: The Musical! (see video below). Desmond already has more than 58,000 followers on Twitter which would give her an advantage on American Idol, which premieres January 6 at 8pm on FOX.
