On the TV series Restaurant Startup, restaurant owners/chefs vie for investments from restaurateur Joe Bastianich (celeb chef Lidia Bastianich’s son) and Texas-based chef Tim Love, among others. The contestants pitch their concepts and then have the opportunity to test their concepts by putting together a pop-up restaurant in the studio in 36 hours — and with just $7,500.

One of the chefs featured on Season 3 includes Michael Midgley of Midgley’s Public House in Stockton, California. Midgley’s describes its culinary experience as “serving American-fusion small plates/shared food, paired with spirits and fine wine.” On Restaurant Startup, Chef Midgley says he’s there to “reinvent the steak house.” Midgley will look familiar to fans of Bravo’s Top Chef, and Food Network’s Cut Throat Kitchen, where he was the top winner. Since then he’s appeared as a judge on Esquire’s Knife Fight and Bravo’s Top Chef Masters. Restaurant Startup airs Wednesdays at 10pom on CNBC.
