In the Modern Family episode “Clean Out Your Junk Drawer,” the Pritchetts attend a group therapy session with famous, self-help author Debra Radcliffe. She helps people to “unclutter their emotional lives.” Each Pritchett has a different reaction to the session. Jay (Ed O’Neill) wants nothing to do with it. Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) try to appear as if they have little clutter to clean, and Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) turn the exercise into a competition.
Debra Radcliffe is portrayed by Catherine O’Hara. The Canadian-born comedienne is best known for her roles in the films Beetlejuice (mom Delia Deetz), Dick Tracy (Texie Garcia), Betsy’s Wedding (Gloria Henner), the Home Alone movies (Kevin’s mom Kate McCallister), and the Christopher Guest films Waiting for Guffman (Sheila Albertson), Best in Show (Cookie Fleck), and A Mighty Wind (Mickey Crabbe). O’Hara is currently starring in the TV series Schitt’s Creek with her frequent partner in crime Eugene Levy. Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC.
