It’s worth the price for the Bill Clinton impression alone — nobody, not even John Travolta, does better empathetic William Jefferson Clinton than Professor Kevin Spacey. That’s right, Professor Spacey. The two-time Oscar-winner has signed on to give students the lowdown on the art of acting, promising to give away at least some of his secrets in a MasterClass for the trim price of $90. Five hours, materials, drills, skills, the works.
MasterClass cofounders Aaron Rasmussen and David Rogier have been tremendous at bringing top tier teaching talent like Spacey inside the virtual walls of their experts-only university. Along with the education MasterClass students also get a sort of mini-documentary on Spacey’s career (the class is directed by House of Cards auteur Tucker Gates) — because actors also need some case studies in tribulation to get them through the dark times. Spacey says he’s doing it to “give back” in the spirit of his mentor, the late great Jack Lemmon. Maybe the best thing about MasterClass is there’s really no pressure to pick a major: if things don’t work out after Spacey teaches you to trod the boards, you can turn to Usher to learn “The Art of Performance” or to mega-bestseller James Patterson to teach you how to write. You can kill at Karaoke or even possibly snag a book deal after these two courses. How far you can take your racket after an online tennis lesson from MasterClass professor Serena Williams is probably another matter, unless you happen to be one of the greatest athletes in the world.
