On the Dr. Ken episode “Dr. Wendi: Coming to LA!,” Ken (Ken Jeong) and his family get a visit from his sister Wendi. She’s a super famous doctor who has her own TV medical talk show. As a host, Wendi is “charming, witty and warm.” Imagine a hybrid of Dr. Oz and Ellen. (Wendi even dances on her medical show just like Ellen.) With all of the family’s attention is on Wendi, Ken is driven into a seriously sticky web of envy. He tries to produce his own TV show where he raps and dances about medicine. It’s not pretty.
Wendi is portrayed by standup comedian Margaret Cho. As an actress, Cho is recognized for her roles on Drop Dead Diva (Teri Lee), Ghost Whisperer (Professor Avery Grant), and her controversial appearance on 30 Rock as a gender-bending Kim Jong-Il, for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. Dr. Ken airs Fridays at 8:30pm on ABC.
