Back when Are You The One host Ryan Devlin hammered contestant Amanda for being “stupid” about the difference between chemistry (that fleeting hook-up juice that flows early) and a relationship (the long haul work it takes to make a partnership) he called Amanda “stupid” about it. May not have been nice, but it didn’t hurt ratings. The moment stuck with Devlin too, who tweeted at AYTO fans: “Upset with the ending of #AYTO? Just think back to that time I went off on Amanda and maybe that’ll help.”
Devlin understands that the show is supposed to be fun, if not for the contestants than for viewers. He reminded those viewers via Twitter to “tie on a nice buzz and meet me there (for the 2-hour finale).” The drinks were necessary as Ryan presided over a finale that was “jaw-dropping” and, as he said, “bonkers!” In season one, before the contestants really knew what was up and tried to game the system, AYTO was more pure perhaps but less dramatic. Season one even had Ethan and Amber, the perfect match that got married and had a baby. Now the machinations may mess up the love on AYTO — but all good network execs would prefer to hear “jaw-dropping” and “bonkers” over sweet and lovely any day of the week.
2-hour season finale of #AYTO tonight! Tie on a nice buzz and meet me there. I’ll be a bit late, but will make up for it by drinking fast.
