Jeffery Austin McClelland is one of the Top 12 singers competing on Season 9 of The Voice. For his Blind Audition he sang Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down,” and joined Gwen Stefani’s team. The 24-year-old redheaded singer is from Chicago — he was raised there by his mother and grandmother after his father died when he was 9. When it was time to go to college, Jeffery stayed close and went to Loyola University of Chicago where he didn’t study music but marketing.

While at Loyola, Jeffery gained valuable experience via an internship with public relations agency Krispr where he pitched products including Pringles, Eggo and Rice Krispies. After graduating from Loyola in 2013, he moved to New York City where he landed a job as an assistant account executive at Edelman, one of the largest PR firms in the world. The Voice airs Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8pm on NBC.
