On The Blacklist, Red (James Spader) does his best to protect Agent Liz Keen (Megan Boone) against a number of assassins after a bounty has been posted on her head. The FBI isn’t going to protect her and “The Director” of the National Clandestine Service is under great pressure by the Cabal “to deal with” Red and Liz too.

The Director is portrayed by David Strathairn. He’s best known for his film roles in George Clooney’s Good Night, And Good Luck (Edward R. Murrow), The Bourne Ultimatum (Noah Vosen), Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln (William Seward), Silkwood (Wesley), Eight Men Out (Eddie Cicotte), and John Sayles’ Return of the Secaucus Seven and Matewan (Sid Hatfield), among others. Fun fact: Strathairn is currently filming American Pastoral based on the novel by Philip Roth, starring Jennifer Connelly, Ewan McGregor and Dakota Fanning. Strathairn plays Nathan Zuckerman, Philip Roth’s alter-ego. The Blacklist airs Thursdays at 9pm on NBC.
