Retired NBA star Shaquille O’Neal has written a book for kids who are learning how to read on their own (6 to 8-year-olds). Little Shaq is about his time growing up in Newark, New Jersey – where the former NBA player learned a thing or two about respect and responsibilities. What makes Shaq qualified to write a children’s book? For starters, he’s the father of six children! “It’s always been something I wanted to do,” O’Neal told Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show.
O’Neal explained to new father Fallon that “There are kids out there who know how to work an iPad before learning how to read.” O’Neal hopes his book will encourage kids to read the old-school way. The hardcover copy of Little Shaq is available for $7.49. For those who can only get their kids to read on a device, there is a Kindle version too ($7.12). The book is illustrated by Theodore Taylor III.
