2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the Irish Easter Rising. I would need a lot more than two paragraphs to explain the causes and consequences of the rebellion. But, hey, thankfully, we have TV to feed us easy-to-digest history! SundanceTV has picked up the US rights to the Irish historical drama Rebellion, a five-part miniseries which tells the story of the birth of modern Ireland through the eyes of three women (one of whom will be played by Game of Thrones‘ Michelle Fairley.)
“Sharing this story about the history of Ireland and its people is so important to SundanceTV not only because it underscores our commitment to showcasing unique voices from around the globe, but also because we believe the struggles and triumphs seen throughout the series will resonate strongly with audiences today,” said SundanceTV’s Joel Stillerman. Rebellion will air on Sundance and Ireland’s RTE next year. Variety and some other outlets have mistakenly reported the series will also star Brendan Gleeson. It will in fact feature his son, Brian.
