On The Simpsons, Homer Simpson delves into the underground world of barbeque smoke-offs. He’s challenged by a “Chew Network celebrity chef” named Scotty Boom who is likely based on Bobby Flay. When Homer’s secret cooking weapon is stolen, Lisa and Bart put on their detective caps and “grill some suspects in an attempt to smoke out the culprit.”

Executive producer of The Simpsons, Matt Selman, announced via Twitter that culinary TV personality Alton Brown will star in the episode and “He is hilarious.” Alton Brown is best known as the creator of the Food Network show Good Eats, and as host on Iron Chef America and Cutthroat Kitchen. He is also known as a Christian who says grace before eating at a restaurant. In an interview with Time magazine, in December 2014, Brown said he “could no longer abide the Southern Baptist Convention’s indoctrination of children and its anti-gay stance” and that he’s now “searching for a new belief system.” Could he have found it while working with The Simpsons? Hey, The Simpsons family is always searching for moral and theological ideals, too. The show airs Sundays at 8pm on FOX.
