“Oh, how I have missed you,” Jon Stewart says in greeting Sarah Vowell on one of the author’s many appearances on The Daily Show. “You know what I like about Sarah Vowell?” Stewart says, “I laugh — and I learn.” Vowell quickly replies: sort of like this show. Stewart demurs, but it’s true Vowell and Stewart are kindred souls — and whenever she came to Stewart’s set it was always a pas de deux for the humor-happy smart set.
