A team of five jewel thieves, Victor Lupis, Jack Cannon, Trey Adams, Michael Young and Ernest Remor, went on a crime spree across the US that started in December 2009 and ended in May 2011. They robbed more than 24 jewelry stores in eight states. Police got their first big break in December 2010, when they were able to identity Victor Lupis running out of the David Marguilis jewelry store in Portland, Oregon with $150,000 worth of diamonds. Lupis confessed and then named names.
Investigators were able to track down the others with the help of social media. The thieves posted photos of the stolen jewelry, how they spent the money and where. Photos of their travel helped to lead to their arrests. ABC 20/20 will investigate reveal the ins and outs of the investigation on July 31, at 10pm.
