Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson is the latest celebrity to entrust his life to explorer Bear Grylls. For his show Running Wild with Bear Grylls, Grylls takes Ferguson on a mountain-climbing expedition. At one point he instructs Ferguson to “Unclip yourself from the via ferrata.” Via ferratas are protected climbing routes that help climbers scale mountains. It’s a steel cable which runs along the route and is periodically fixed to the rock. But instead of “via ferrata” Ferguson hears “Sofia Vergara” – his co-star on Modern Family. In a bout of nervousness, Ferguson makes a joke. “You’ve got to be really careful with those Sofia Vergaras,” says Ferguson. He points to the bottom of the mountain and says with that nervous laughter, “The Sofia Vergaras are my best friend [up] here because without them I would be down there.” Running With with Bear Grylls airs Mondays at 10pm on NBC.
