The Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons who plays Sheldon Cooper on the TV show was born in Houston, Texas. He was raised in the suburbs by his parents. His father owned a plumbing business and his mother was a teacher. Jim got hooked on acting in high school. He went on to study acting at the University of Houston and later the University of San Diego. He moved to New York in 2001, which proved to be a very difficult year for Parsons.
Parsons’ father, Milton “Mickey” Parsons, Jr., died in a car crash on April 29, 2001. He was 52 years old. Jim, at the time, was 28-years-old. Of course Parsons’ career has soared since then. He started with Off-Broadway productions which were followed by TV commercials and appearances on shows like Judging Amy and Ed. Parsons said recently of his father: “With him being gone it’s been quite a comfort to think and feel that he’s sort of still along for the journey.” James Lipton will interview Jim Parsons on Inside the Actors Studio which airs Thursdays at 8pm on Bravo.
