Lionel Pickens, aka Chinx, was shot dead in New York City on May 16. The Queens-born singer had just performed in Brooklyn. He and a friend were on their way to a hookah bar in Queens. Driving his late-model silver Porsche, Chinx was at a red light when another car pulled alongside. The New York Times reports: Without warning, shots began crashing through the half-open driver’s side window at close enough range that detectives later found a 9-millimeter shell casing inside the Porsche on the front seat.
Chinx died at Jamaica Hospital. He was 31. His friend, Antar Alziadi, 27, survived. Chinx is best known for his song “I’m a Coke Boy” with fellow rapper French Montana.
