Pharrell Williams is the producer of Snoop Dogg’s new hit California Roll. It’s an ode to medical marijuana and features the one and only Stevie Wonder on backup vocals and harmonica. While Wonder says he never had a desire to do drugs, he doesn’t judge those who do. Snoop said it was his idea to get Wonder on the track. Pharrell didn’t think Wonder would. When Wonder did show up in the studio, Pharrell was starstruck, according to Snoop. Or just too high to realize it. As Snoop explained it, “I was smoking so much that you [Pharrell] had caught a secondhand contract.”
The lyrics start: “Baby you could be a movie star, hey (in Los Angeles)/Get yourself a medical card, yeah (in Los Angeles)/cause that’s how California rolls.” California Roll is on Snoop’s new album Bush which is rolling out May 12. Pharrell and Snoop Dogg will perform the song together on The Voice, May 12 at 8pm on NBC.
