Emily Blunt is at the Cannes Film Festival to promote her latest film, a crime thriller called Sicario. She plays the lead, an FBI agent in Mexico with shady characters played by Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin. It’s directed by Denis Villenueve.
During an interview, a reporter told Blunt that many women who appeared for the red carpet premiere of Carol (it’s about a lesbian love affair in the 1950s starring Cate Blanchette and Rooney Mara) were turned away because they were wearing flats. “The festival mandates a high-heels-only policy when it comes to footwear,” Fox News reports. Blunt replied, “I think everyone should wear flats, to be honest,” Blunt said. “We shouldn’t wear high heels anymore. That’s just my point of view I prefer to wear Converse sneakers. That’s very disappointing.” Think the organizers of the Cannes Festival will turn away Emily Blunt? We doubt it. They did nothing to stop Eva Longoria from taking selfies.
