Madonna may not be the prom queen of pop anymore, but she’s still an influence in all sorts of ways. Britney Spears — whose onstage Madonna smooch once made headlines — recently collaborated with rapper Iggy Azalea on a song called “Pretty Girls.” Like all pretty girls, it had planned to do things on its own sweet timetable. But the duo had to drop their single a little earlier than they’d hoped. Why? Because it leaked.
Same thing happened to Madonna when the Material Girl lost control of her material late last year. Madonna released six singles early from Rebel Heart, her 13th studio album, in time for last Christmas. She had wanted the first single to drop on Valentine’s Day of this year, but Madonna was forced to let go early because the six songs were already out on the Internet.
