After attending a night service at her church, Nancy Howard of Carrollton, Texas pulled into her garage. She didn’t hear anything, but suddenly there was a man behind her. He put his arm around her neck and shot her in the head. Howard fell and was left for dead. She survived and was able to call 911.
Carrollton Police looked at the surveillance video from Nancy Howard’s church parking lot and were convinced that she had been followed fro m church. She was. Her husband, John “Frank” Howard hired a 19-year-old to kill his wife of 29 years. Frank Howard paid the would-be hit man nearly $1 million. Where did he get the money? Besides orchestrating the hit, Frank Howard was also accused of embezzling $7 million from his employer. He was living a double life. When not in Carrollton, he was with his longtime mistress in California, for whom he bought an $800,000 home, and a condo in Lake Tahoe, among other things. In August 2014, Frank Howard was sentenced to life in prison. Dateline NBC will investigate “The Carrollton Plot” on Sunday, April 26 at 7pm.
